More Rewards MasterCard Credit Card
More Rewards MasterCard Credit Card

More Rewards MasterCard Credit Card

Offered by MBNA Canada, the More Rewards MasterCard Credit Card is a dynamic card that provides lots (and lots) of rewards and benefits, but is it truly worth it? Understand what this card has to offer and how good it is with this credit card review.

Credit Card Overview

The MBNA More Rewards Credit Card is a no annual fee Platinum Plus MasterCard and a big points card (see the ‘More Rewards’ section), which means you can gain all of the best features of any MasterCard, and a points scheme that rewards you in earnest. There is also a promotional 1.99% APR on balance transfers, access cheques and deposits for 6 months, making this card useful for anyone who has an outstanding balance with another credit card and wants to get on top of it.

The standard APR for retail purchases, balance transfers and access cheques and deposits is 19.99%. The rate of 19.99% for cash advances is lower than many other Canadian credit cards.

More Rewards

You gain 3 points per dollar almost anywhere where MasterCard is accepted and 4 points per dollar when you shop at the following places: Urban Fare stores, PriceSmart Foods, Save-On-Foods, Copper’s Foods and Overwaitea Foods.

If you watch where you spend, you can enjoy earning more points than is possible with many other credit cards, but there are limitations which you should appreciate. This reward scheme is not MBNA’s native reward scheme, but in-fact a third party reward scheme – More Rewards. The crucial limitation of the More Rewards scheme is that you cannot redeem your points for cash back. What you do get is travel, gift cards, merchandise, selected in-store groceries and charitable donations. If you don’t mind this limitation and you frequently shop at the above stores, this credit card will offer you lots of rewards before you know it.

It is a very good idea to go to the More Rewards website and read up on the program and the available rewards before you apply.

Credit Card Features

Platinum Plus is the second best type of credit card you can get with MBNA, and it provides a large range of benefits to keep you protected while you spend and to assist and serve when you are away from home. For example, you get personal effects insurance up to $2,000 and rental collision damage waiver options.

Fees and Charges

All transaction fees are a minimum of $7.50 or 1% of the transferred amount. Foreign transactions are 2.5% of the transferred amount. Returned payment and returned access cheque fees are $20 and over the credit limit fees and late payment fees are $25. The interest fee grace period is 21 days after the close of the previous cycle. You can see the complete terms and conditions and apply for this credit card by following this link. Read through these terms to understand minimum payments, transaction fees and interest rate calculations.

MBNA Rewards MasterCard Credit Card
MBNA Rewards MasterCard Credit Card

MBNA Rewards MasterCard Credit Card

Many of MBNA Canada’s credit cards have fancy rewards programs, but the new MBNA Rewards MasterCard is as simple as you can get. As this review reveals, simplicity is often the best medicine, so read through the information to understand what you are getting before you apply.

Credit Card Overview

The Rewards MasterCard from MBNA Canada is a simple credit card with a rewards scheme that comes with no added complications or hassle. There is one point provided per dollar wherever MasterCard is accepted, and 1,000 bonus points which come when you make your first purchase. There are no brand-specific bonus points, but this card is not designed for this purpose – there are many other affinity cards which might be a better option if you spend lots of money with a single brand. The retail APR is 19.99% and balance transfers are 21.99%.

Rewards Program

Once you have earned a large enough points balance, you can redeem them for a range of rewards courtesy of MBNA. With other credit card points programs you may face limited redemption options, but thanks to MBNA’s position in the market your points can be used in almost any way you’d like. You can redeem them for travel and flights, hotels and holiday packages, car rentals, cash back statement credits, merchandise, charitable donations and special offers.

You can use your points to save money on almost every airline, anytime, with no blackout dates. Follow this link to look at the MBNA Rewards Catalogue to get a flavour of what merchandise you can redeem your points for. If you don’t have quite the point total you need to get what you want you can always add extra points with money.

How Does This Card Stack Up?

With the rewards and redemption freedom in mind plus no annual fee, this card stacks up well against competing Canadian credit cards. There are however credit card options (both from MBNA and other providers) which offer a better return on your purchases. As an all-round, general use credit card this one is very good, but if you are planning on spending lots of money, you should check other cards to see if you can get a better return. This is especially true if you spend lots with a certain brand – affinity cards might make a better option in this case.

Terms and Fees

The standard ARP for retail purchase is 19.99%. The APR for balance transfers, access cheques and deposits is 21.99%. The APR for cash advances is 24.99%. Transaction fees are 1% of the transferred amount or a minimum of $7.50. Returned payment fees and returned access cheque fees are $20, and overlimit and late payment fees are $25. Foreign transaction fees are 2.5%. Fees may depend on your credit balance. The standard interest rate increases by 5% if you make more than one late payment in 12 consecutive months. Read the full terms and conditions here.

MBNA Rewards Studentawards Credit Card
MBNA Rewards Studentawards Credit Card

MBNA Rewards Studentawards Credit Card

If you are about to embark on student life in Canada then you should probably consider your credit card options as early as possible. There are many different student credit card choices in Canada, and as one of the most popular credit card providers it is natural to see a good student rewards card from MBNA Canada. This credit card review explains the benefits and drawbacks of this card with the student in-mind.

Credit Card Overview

The MBNA Studentrewards Credit Card helps your money go further by giving you points for all your purchases and bonus points. Use wisely and you will have a trusty spender in your pocket with reasonable interest rates and cardholder features.

A Useful Student Credit Card

One of the most difficult aspects of student life is saving and budgeting. More money is always spent than predicted, and budgeting often fails simply because of the fact we are human and not machines (but when students are in the midst of poverty season they often wish that they were!).

There is a way to solve this problem however and this student rewards card provides just the way to do it. You use the card on all your general purchases, and the card gives you 1 MBNA rewards point for every dollar. There is no limit to the amount of points you can gain, so you can keep on spending and rack up the points over time with no worries whatsoever.

Once you reach enough points you will be able to redeem them for cash-back (as well as traveling, merchandise and gift cards), and this cash basically means you can purchase a certain amount groceries and other important items for free. There are also 1,000 bonus points after the first purchase, and 1,000 bonus points on the anniversary of account opening every year.

On top of this there is no annual fee, easy card management with online access and 24/7 customer services. As a leading credit card provider the customer services and security you gain with MBNA are definite positives.

This card comes with an interest rate on purchases of 18.99%, and a rate of 19.99% for cash advances, balance transfers and access cheques. These are very good rates for a student credit card, and are not a problem if you keep a low balance by paying off your purchases in earnest each month.

The Disadvantages

There are no real disadvantages to this card, but as a standard MasterCard you don’t get the features and benefits of the revered Platinum MasterCard. Many Platinum MasterCard features come in very handy for students, such as travel insurance and extended warranty, but as a preferred card this card does not offer as many features.

You can read over the details of this credit card and apply for it here. The complete terms and conditions for the MBNA Rewards Studentrewards Credit Card can be found here.

Barclaycard Rewards MasterCard Average Credit
Barclaycard Rewards MasterCard Average Credit

Barclaycard Rewards MasterCard Average Credit

The Barclaycard Rewards MasterCard is now available, and as a middleweight card it is available for people with average credit scores. What features does this card have to offer, and how does it stack up for people with average credit scores? This review will help you find out.

Credit Card Overview

The major deciding factor for the provision of credit is the interest rate, and with a highest possible APR of 24.99%, the Barclaycard Rewards MasterCard is applicable for people with credit scores starting at around 600. Barclaycard occasionally offer this card to people with scores lower than 600, though the vast majority of successful applicants have a higher score than this.

Many of Barclaycard’s affinity credit cards are designed for people with better credit scores, with a number of significant rewards and low interest rates. The Rewards MasterCard offers similar terms to these affinity cards, and a point program that provides a good amount of points on everyday spending, so even with an average credit score you can capitalize on the available benefits and receive cash back or rewards for your spending.

The Advantages

With 2 points per dollar on general purchases (gas, groceries, bills…), and 1 points per dollar for everything else, as long as you stick within budget and pay what you owe, you not only increase your score over time, you earn plenty of points to redeem for a range of rewards, including cash back to help you pay for purchases over $25. General purchases like gas are an unavoidable part of life, so it is always an advantage when you get more for your necessary expenditures. The 2,500 bonus points for your first purchase is the icing on the cake.

As well as this rewards program there is also 0% introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for 6 months. This gives you purchasing freedom for this period, and if you hold a balance on another credit card you can make a transfer and save by paying no interest. Many points programs for average ratings come with restrictions, but with this card there are no expiration dates, blackout dates or cash back limits.

The Disadvantages

The key with this credit card is to understand the charges and fees in the terms and conditions. There is a risk involved with lending to people with average ratings, and this is reflected in the high cash advance APR and the penalty APR with this credit card. This means if you do not stay on good terms, you not only face high charges, but a possible impact on your credit rating as well.

Terms and Conditions

Standard APR is either 14.99%, 17.99% or 24.99%. With an average credit rating you can expect the 24.99% rate. Cash advance APR is 25.34% and penalty APR is 30.24% for people who secure the 24.99% rate. There is no annual fee, and $35 is the maximum fee for late payments or returned payments. Foreign transactions are 3%. Click Here to apply.

The travel is not restricted either – it can be a cruise, an air ticket, a hotel room or rental cars, even taxi expenses are offered.
